演劇学校の日々　National School of Drama INDIA

インド国立演劇学校（national school of drama)は、デリー中心部にあるインド演劇界最高峰の国立教育機関である。約2000人以上の応募者から選ばれる学生は30名程度。インド各地から集まった若者たちは、全寮制の環境で寝食を共にしながら、西洋現代劇だけでなく伝統芸能も学ぶ。

異なる宗教、言語、階層、身体性を持つ学生たちが、演劇という営みを通じて共同体を形成していく。衝突し、支え合いながら舞台をつくる日々は、多様性を抱える現代インド社会の縮図でもある。

私は、アッサム州マジュリ島での伝統仮面劇バオナ（Bhaona）の公演から、寮生活や日々のエチュードまで、演劇に青春を捧げる若者たちの3年間を長期的に記録している。

High in the heart of New Delhi sits the National School of Drama. Out of thousands who apply, barely thirty are chosen. They arrive from the far corners of India, bringing their languages, their gods, their shadows, and their scars. Under a single roof, they live, eat, and breathe the stage—learning the geometry of Western theater alongside the ancient pulse of tradition.

To create together is to collide. In their friction and unity, the stage becomes a living microcosm of a fragmented, beautiful country.

For three years, I follow these young lives as they offer their youth to the stage. From the sacred masked rites of Bhaona on Majuli Island to the quiet, dusty corners of their dorm rooms, I document the fragile, fierce formation of a collective soul.
